On Sunday, April 12 Peru will officially end its quarantine period. The coffee sector is expected to start operations this coming Sunday for the 2020 crop while following health guidelines. Mills and warehouses are expected to work under limited schedules and reduced staff. Transportation of goods will require special permits that will potentially add to expected delays. Access to labor for coffee picking is a further concern, as most of the northern regions rely on migrant labor from Ecuador. The Peru-Ecuador border is closed and is expected to remain so for the foreseeable future.

Colombia

In anticipation of a shortage of pickers, Colombia is beginning to implement an "assisted picking" method aimed at reducing costs and improve efficiency. This method reduces the number of people required for harvesting, greatly improving safety conditions in the context of Covid-19.
